HA3 - Task 7 - Professional Bodies Supporting the Industry

In the games industry there are many professional bodies that are help to make the gaming industry to be shown as a good thing and put in a better light in the eyes of the public.

Professional Bodies:

UKIE:

UKIE stands for The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment and this body focuses on putting the games industry in a positive light so that it isn't seen as this toxic wasteland any more but appreciated and supported by a lot more people. They also help out other smaller companies that are starting in the industry to make the games industry even stronger and more efficient.

 IGDA:

IGDA stands for The International Game Developers Association is an organization that lives to help small companies or an individual to achieve their dream of making a game that they have always wanted to do which is good as this could give a small company the push that they need to get started in this industry which isn't the easiest to get into. This company is also non-profitable so they don't get anything for helping these people except the joy of helping out the underdogs that need it.

  WIGJ:

WIGJ stand for Women in Games Jobs which is a non-profitable company that aims to make the games industry more appealing to women as it is pretty male dominated at the moment. They aslo give women the encouragement and confidence to those who are worried abot a job interview just because they are women and not men. They want to involve new women but also don't want to loose the women that are already in the games industry. Along with this they want more women role models in the games industry so that women know it's possible for them to do just as good or even better than men even though they may not think it.

BAFTA:

BAFTA stands for The British Academy of Film and Television Arts which does also include video games as well. They host award ceremonies and give out trophies to different games depending on the category or what the award is for. This shows which games are most popular, which sold the most, etc. This allows the general public to see that all games aren't just about violence and killing which is a positive. Personally I am glad to see that video games get recognised for all the work, time and effort that gets put into them.

MEF:

MEF stands for Mobile Entertainment Forum which is a company that helps others who want to have their game go mobile with the least amount of fuss possible. This association as offices all over the world so that they can help as many companies as possible with spreading their games across the market place of IOS, Android and Google devices.
